Photography 101

In this course, you will learn the basic principles of photography and develop the skills necessary to take stunning photographs.

We will cover a variety of topics, including composition, exposure, lighting, and editing, as well as explore different types of photography, such as landscape, portrait, aerial and street. You will learn how to use your camera's manual settings and gain an understanding of the technical aspects of the art. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to create visually striking images that tell a story and capture the world around you.

Course Curriculum:

  • Learn the basics of photography and get familiar with using a camera.

    Understand more about the history and evolution of photography and how it exists today.

  • The exposure triangle is the foundation of photography. Understand more about aperture, ISO and shutter speed to get the best results for every scenario.

  • Less rules, more guidelines. In this module learn how to make your images tell the story you want them to tell by getting the best composition each time.

  • Get started with street photography by understanding what lenses, subjects and compositions work best to produce meaningful street photos.

  • This module covers aerial photography, including how to get the best out of your drone and get stunning results safely and efficiently.

  • Portraits can be tough and require a good knowledge lighting and positioning to yield the best results. Learn about how to create the best portraits with whatever equipment and lighting you have here.

  • Use Adobe Lightroom to get the best out of your photos. Understand more about how the features of the platform can be used to enhance your shots.

  • Subject removal? Orton Effect? Stitching? The best way to dodge and burn? Learn it all here.

  • Understand how to continue developing your photography and ways to stand out with your own individual style.

  • Finish up with a full course summary and review the outputs for each module. Establish key next steps to continue developing your photography journey.

Participants based in Hong Kong can opt for practical, in-person lessons, otherwise these will be done remotely with assignments.
